Nymphaea "Pygmaea Alba" is a true dwarf water lily. This small, white-flowering hybrid is suitable for medium to small ponds. The small leaves first appear olive green and then, during the season, turn a decorative darker green with brown spots. This water lily blooms from June to September, with small, slightly fragrant, cup-shaped, white flowers with a golden yellow center and the diameter of the flower is just 3 to 5 cm. As soon as the flower has finished blooming, the seeds sink to the bottom. Nymphaea "Pygmaea Alba" likes a position in full sun, a water depth of 0.15 to 0.40 meters and a nutrient-rich soil. Callitriche verna, called little star duck in Dutch, is an evergreen oxygenating plant or floating plant with a wide distribution area, the plant is also native to Belgium and the Netherlands. Little Star Duckweed has small, narrow, elliptical, bright green leaves that float on the surface of the water in a rosette form. Callitriche verna blooms in spring with small, axillary, white-green flowers made up of 1 stamen or 1 pistil. This oxygenating plant can be planted in acidic to neutral soil at a water depth of 20 to 50cm, but can also be used perfectly as a floating plant or as a marsh plant. Ceratophyllum demersum, called thorn or coarse hornwort in Dutch, is a submerged aquatic plant without roots, with a very high water-purifying capacity. This oxygenating plant is a true cosmopolitan and occurs almost worldwide in sufficiently deep and fresh water. The leaves are dark green, branched fork-shaped, standing in whorls on long stems. This hornwort blooms in summer with small white flowers, the plant is monoecious, the male flowers have about 20 stamens, the female 1 pistil. The pollen floats through the water until it reaches the pistil, after fertilization olive green spiny achenes form. Thorn hornwort is very hardy, grows quickly, is not salt tolerant and only suitable for fresh water.

Elodea canadensis
Elodea canadensis, called broad waterweed in Dutch, originates from North America. This submerged, evergreen aquatic plant with stems of 60cm and more has an enormous water-purifying capacity and vigor. It quickly forms runners and can form entire mats in a short time. The leaves are oblong, lanceolate, dark green, usually in whorls of 3 on the long stems. Elodea is dioecious, but in our regions we usually only find female plants. The flowers are inconspicuous, greenish white to pinkish, the flowering period runs from May to August. Waterweed likes a place with sufficient sunlight and prefers to grow in a mixture of clay and peat, but it also comes into its own in a sandy soil.

Hydrocotyle sieboldii 'Variegata'
Hydrocotyle sieboldii 'Variegata', in Dutch called pennywort, is a marsh plant with a creeping rhizome that grows (too) exuberantly both in and out of the water. As a landform it is often used as a ground cover, in the water it forms a mat, the shield-shaped, light green leaves with a white margin then float on the water surface. The inflorescence during the summer is rather inconspicuous with white small flowers on thin peduncles. Variegated pennywort likes a position in the sun and does well in any moist to normally dry soil. Hydrocotyle sieboldii 'Variegata' is hardy, tolerates drought, sea wind and air pollution and has little or no problems with pests and diseases.

Myriophyllum crispata, also called featherwort, is a semi-evergreen aquatic plant with a creeping, floating habit. The plant has bright green, feather-shaped, almost needle-like leaves, which are whorled around the stems. The plant is monoecious and flowers in the months of June to August, with very small, white to reddish brown, axillary spikes. Myriophyllum crispata likes a position in full sun or partial shade and a moist to wet soil, it prefers standing or weakly flowing water at a depth between 20 and 60 cm. In a sufficiently deep location the plant is hardy, it is also sea wind tolerant and tolerates slightly brackish water and tolerates air pollution. Fish lay their eggs on it and amphibians find shelter there.

Baldellia ranunculoides
Baldellia ranunculoides, in Dutch called stiff swamp plantain or small water breegwee, is a ground cover, rosette-forming aquatic or swamp plant. The light green leaves are narrow ellipsoidal with a pointed apex and wedge-shaped base. The plant flowers from June to August with whitish pink flowers in pyramidal, paniculate inflorescence. Baldellia ranunculoides likes a position in full sun or partial shade and can be planted both above water along the bank and up to 15 cm below water in a neutral to calcareous soil. Stiff swamp plantain is moderate to good hardy, attracts butterflies and bees, tolerates sea breezes but dislikes air pollution.
