Bamboo

Fargesia angustissima is a non-invasive bamboo from China.
Forms thick stems with overhanging culms. The culms are first blue-green, later turn greener and finally turn yellow.
Young culms grow obliquely but later become straighter.
Grows best in sandy or clayey soil in a sheltered spot.
This bamboo is very suitable for hedges or tubs.

Fargesia murieliae 'Dino' from China is a pol-forming bamboo without shoots.
Forms dense clumps and has an upright shape with slightly arching green leaves.
Requires a permeable moist, nutrient-rich soil.

Fargesia murieliae 'jumbo' is a medium-sized bamboo with a bushy upright, compact, non-invasive habit. He was selected from wards in the late 1970s. The leaves are small and graceful, light green, the culms are yellow-green to orange-yellow and hang slightly over. This bamboo likes a position in partial shade, shade or sun and a fresh, well-drained, airy and fertile soil. Fargesia murieliae 'jumbo' is hardy, tolerates fairly drought and is disease and vermin free. It is a suitable bamboo to serve as a hedge plant, windbreak or patio plant (container plant).

Fargesia robusta 'Campbell' is a very popular, medium to large sized bamboo with a robust, upright, non-invasive habit. The leaves are small and elegantly colored dark green and stand on olive-green culms that stand out in spring because of the paper-white bracts. This bamboo prefers a position in partial shade, shade or full sun and a fresh, well-drained, airy and fertile soil. Fargesia robusta 'Campbell' is hardy, tolerates fairly drought and is disease and pest free. It is a suitable bamboo to serve as a hedge plant, windbreak or patio plant (container plant).

Fargesia robusta 'Formidable' or Ornamental bamboo grows the tallest of all Fargesia species. Fargesia robusta 'Formidable' grows in a clump shape, does not proliferate. It is a very strong and hardy non-invasive bamboo. The Fargesia robusta 'Formidable' has beautiful green elongated leaves. This bamboo can be used well as a partition in the garden. This garden plant can also be used as a solitary at the back of a larger border. Fargesia robusta 'Formidable' is an evergreen ornamental shrub and eventually grows to about 300 cm high and can stand in both the sun and the shade.

Fargesia robusta 'pingwu' is native to Sichuan province in China, it is an attractive, medium to large sized bamboo with an upright, clump-forming, non-invasive habit. The leaves are small and gracefully colored medium green and stand on dark green culms that stand out in spring because of the beautifully contrasting yellow-white bracts. This bamboo prefers a position in partial shade, shade or full sun and a fresh, well-drained, airy and fertile soil. Fargesia robusta 'pingwu' is hardy, tolerates fairly drought and is disease and vermin free. It is a suitable bamboo to serve as a hedge plant, windbreak or patio plant (container plant).

The Fargesia rufa is one of the most beautiful and graceful bamboos with apple green hanging leaves and a bushy growth.
Even in winter it retains this fresh green color.
The red bracts of the new shoots are striking.
Can also be used as a hedge.
Grows to between 250 and 300 cm high and is not invasive, but if you are thinking of a narrow hedge, a root cloth will still be necessary.
Is not rampant like the Phyllostachys, this one can become a nightmare !!!!

Phyllostachys aurea is called golden bamboo or giant bamboo in Dutch. It is a large, evergreen bamboo with a vigorous, columnar habit. The leaves are linear, lanceolate, colored light green. They grow on sturdy, upright, olive-green to green-yellow culms that can grow up to 4 cm in diameter. This bamboo prefers a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade and a moisture-retaining, but well-permeable, humus-rich soil. Phyllostachys aurea is reasonably to hardy, but only moderately drought tolerant. It tolerates mild sea breezes and air pollution and is virtually unaffected by diseases or vermin.

Phyllostachys aureosulcata "Aureocaulis" is called giant bamboo in Dutch. It is a large, evergreen bamboo with a vigorous, columnar habit. The leaves are lanceolate and medium green in color. They grow on sturdy, upright, golden yellow culms that sometimes show some green stripes close to the base. This bamboo prefers a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade and a moisture-retaining, but well-permeable, humus-rich soil.
