Mentha aquatica
Mentha aquatica, also called water mint, is a deciduous swamp plant with upright shape and numerous shoots via rhizome. The leaves are round to ovate, serrated, medium green to purple-green and strongly aromatic. Water mint blooms from July to September, with lilac flowers grouped in a spherical inflorescence. Mentha aquatica prefers a position in the sun or partial shade and a, preferably, slightly moist soil. The plant is hardy, tolerant to sea wind, tolerates air pollution and is disease resistant. Water mint can be used in tea and salads, traditionally the plant was also used to stew eel, hence the common name "eel herb".
