Acanthus balcanicus, is an endemic herbaceous perennial plant of the genus Acanthus, native to the Balkan Peninsula, up to Dalmatia. This plant is also grown in many European and American gardens. It grows to 80 cm in length, with basal clusters of deeply lobed and cut leaves.

Actinidia kolomikta
Actinidia columnikta, in Dutch called ornamental kiwi, siberian kiwi or even cat kiwi, is a deciduous compact upright climbing vine with large oval to heart-shaped leaves that are colored dark green and in the male specimens are also decorative variegated leaves with white and pink spots towards the leaf tip. Siberian kiwi flowers in April and May with pleasantly fragrant creamy white flowers, the female flowers will later produce orange-green fruits, if there is also a male plant nearby. These mini kiwis of barely 2 cm are edible and have a sweet aromatic taste. Actinidia columnikta likes a position in full sun and a fertile, well-drained soil, the plant is very hardy, fairly drought-tolerant and tolerates air pollution well.

Acaena buchananii, also called spikelnootje in Dutch, is an evergreen perennial with a ground covering, creeping shape. This plant has small elongated compound leaves, colored blue-green to gray-green and with a serrated leaf margin. Acaena prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and prefers a calcareous to neutral, well-drained soil type. This plant is hardy, requires little maintenance, is sea wind tolerant and is usually used as a ground cover or as a plant for the rock garden.

Akebia quinata
Akebia quinata, called mock gherkin or chocolate vine in Dutch, is a vigorously upright semi-evergreen climber with a broad-spreading habit. The leaves are compound, five-lobed and palmate, the leaflets are ovate, leathery and colored dark green to blue-green. This chocolate vine flowers in April and May with chestnut-red to chocolate-coloured, pleasantly fragrant flowers in pendulous racemes, later followed by striking gherkin-like violet-purple fruits. Akebia quinata likes a spot in partial shade, full sun is also possible; provided the soil is sufficiently moist and the plant has its feet in the shade. The plant is also very hardy and once established, it is also fairly drought tolerant, it tolerates air pollution.

Aristolochia macrophylla
Aristolochia macrophylla, also called German pipe, pipe flower or muff pipe in Dutch, is a vigorously upright, deciduous climbing plant with large heart-shaped dark green leaves that grow over each other like roof tiles, forming a dense foliage. The German pipe blooms from May to July with yellow-green to yellow-brown flowers, which, if you're imagining, look like a curved pipe neck and also work perfectly as an insect trap. Aristolochia macrophylla likes a position in partial shade or sun, but especially appreciates it if it does not stand with its feet in full sun. The plant is hardy, low maintenance, fairly sea breeze and air pollution tolerant, good disease resistant.
