Acorus cal. 'Variegatus'

Acorus calamus variegatus, in Dutch called variegated calamus, is a deciduous, water-purifying, bank or marsh plant with a carpet-forming, proliferating habit. The leaves are sword-shaped, iris-like, aromatic and wrinkled at the edge, the leaf color is light green with horizontal white stripes. Variegated calamus blooms from June to August with discreet, small green flowers that are densely grouped in 6 to 8 cm long cobs. In our region, the plant only rarely forms red berries. Acorus calamus variegatus prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and moist, soggy to wet soil. The plant is very hardy, attracts butterflies and bees, tolerant to sea wind and good disease resistance.
