Stachys grandiflora 'Superba'

Stachys grandiflora "Superba" is also called dog ear in Dutch. It is an evergreen perennial with an upright, clump-forming habit. The attractive leaves are broad, ovate, wrinkled, strongly veined, medium green and form rosettes. This dog's ear blooms from June to August with violet-purple, two-lipped, tubular flowers in upright salvia-like flower spikes. Stachys grandiflora "Superba" likes a sunny position and a well-drained, moderately fertile, dry soil. He fails on too limy soil. Donkey's ear is sensitive to wet growing conditions, especially in winter protection against excessive water is recommended. The plant is also hardy, tolerant of sea wind and air pollution and tolerates drought well.
