Pleioblastus auricomus
Pleioblastus auricomus is a slow growing, evergreen dwarf bamboo with a compact upright, slightly arching habit. The leaves are broad, lanceolate, variegated, colored light green with golden-yellow stripes. They stand on thin purple-tinted culms. This bamboo likes a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade and a moist, but well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Pleioblastus auricomus is very hardy, but still prefers a sheltered place. It is only moderately drought tolerant, dislikes direct sea breezes, tolerates air pollution and is virtually unaffected by disease or pests.

Salvia officinalis
Salvia officinalis, also known as true sage, is a semi-evergreen perennial with a compact upright shape and gray-green, oval to elongated, aromatic leaves. This decorative, but also culinary sage, blooms from June to August with violet-blue flower spikes. It may be cut back after the first bloom to encourage a second bloom. The plant likes a position in full sun and does well in almost any soil type. Salvia officinalis is hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and has few problems with diseases. This medium-sized evergreen fern likes a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and a well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, slightly moist soil.
