Thymus vulgaris 'Compactus' is called real thyme in Dutch. It is an evergreen perennial with a bushy and low habit. The downy leaves are dark green and aromatic. Real thyme flowers from June to August with lots of pink to lilac flowers. The plant prefers a position in full sun and a well-drained, not too fertile, reasonably dry soil. Thymus vulgaris 'Compactus' can be pruned back in early spring and even light trimming is possible after flowering. This plant is hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution, attracts bees and butterflies and is virtually unaffected by pests or diseases.
