Satureja montana

Satureja montana, also called winter savory or mountain rock thyme, is an evergreen perennial or semi-shrub with a bushy, upright shape and narrow, almost linear, aromatic dark green leaves. Winter savory blooms from July to September with small purple, lilac-white to lilac-pink flowers, later followed by dark brown seeds. The plant prefers a sunny position and a neutral to calcareous, well-drained, not too fertile soil. Satureja montana is hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution, has little or no disease or vermin and attracts bees and butterflies. This garden herb also has numerous culinary and medicinal uses.
