Matteuccia struthiopteris

Matteuccia struthiopteris, also called ostrich fern or cup fern, is a large, graceful, fast-growing, deciduous native fern with a polishing and proliferating habit. This fern has double-feathered, bright green leaves. In the heart of the plant, the fertile, spore-bearing leaves develop between July and August. This graceful fern likes a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and a well-drained, humus-rich, moist soil. Matteuccia struthiopteris is very hardy, tolerant of air pollution and once well established it can handle drier periods. It has few pests and is also disease resistant.
