The leaves are spoon-shaped, colored gray-green to silver-green. Water plantain blooms from June to August with white to pinkish white flowers in a loose panicle-shaped inflorescence. Alisma plantago-aquatica likes a position in full sun and prefers to stand 10 to 30 cm deep with its feet in the water, although it can also temporarily cope with drier conditions.
