Bergenia cord. 'Purpurea'

Bergenia cordifolia "Purpurea", called cobbler plant in English, is an attractive evergreen perennial with a polishing habit and large ruffled, decorative leaves on fleshy stems, the leaf color is medium green in spring, summer, autumn and deep purple in winter. This bergenia blooms from March to May with magenta-red bell-shaped flowers on upright stems. The cobbler plant is very hardy, does well in partial shade, shade and sun and is not very demanding as far as soil is concerned, although it prefers a fresh, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Bergenia cordifolia "Purpurea" is sea wind tolerant and is very resistant to air pollution.
