Leucothoe axillaris 'Curly Red'

Leucothoe axillaris 'curly red' is a medium-sized broad and bushy evergreen shrub. It blooms in May with inconspicuous fragrant white flowers, but it mainly shines with its gracefully curled glossy leaves that are red at first, later turn green and turn a beautiful red-purple in autumn. This grape heather species likes a position in full sun or partial shade and a fresh, well-drained neutral to acidic soil. It is a slow grower, which sometimes dares to make shoots through the roots, it requires little pruning, is very hardy and can be used on a balcony, terrace, in the heather garden or as a cut shrub for flower arranging.
