Levisticum officinale
Levisticum officinale, called lovage or maggi in English, is a deciduous herbaceous perennial with a tall, columnar habit and dark green aromatic leaves. Lovage blooms from the end of June to August with green-yellow umbels, later followed by brown ribbed seeds. Levisticum officinale prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and a well-drained, slightly moist, fertile soil. The plant is hardy, once established also fairly drought tolerant, attracts bees and butterflies, is disease resistant, tolerant to air pollution. All parts of lovage are edible and culinary applicable, the plant also has a good medicinal effect and works, among other things, promoting digestion, expelling urine and masking bad odors.

Butomus umbellatus
Butomus umbellatus, in Dutch called swan flower, is a high upright, rhizome-spreading, deciduous, water or marsh plant with long, narrow, stiff green leaves, which are strangely triangular at the bottom. Swan flower blooms from May to August with whitish pink flowers arranged in 15cm umbel-like flowers on long rounded flower stems. Butomus umbellatus prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and a water depth of minimum 5 to maximum 45 cm. The acidity of the soil is not that important, although the swan flower feels at its best in reasonably "greasy" clay soil. This plant is hardy and disease resistant and gives a nice vertical accent to the pond planting.

Euonymus japonicus' microphyllus: this small evergreen cardinal has a compact upright shape. The leaves are medium green, narrow, glossy, serrated and elliptical in shape. This cardinal's cap blooms in May and June with inconspicuous white-green flowers. euonymus japonicus 'microphyllus' is reasonably hardy, does well in any soil type and grows in both full sun and partial shade. It can withstand pruning, is air pollution tolerant and also resistant to sea wind and can be used as a coastal plant.

Hedera colchica
Hedera colchica also called persian ivy is a low-growing, evergreen shrub with a wide spread shape, dark green, oval to heart-shaped leaves and small yellow-green flowers in upright clusters. After flowering, which lasts from July to September, small black currants follow. Hedera colchica does well in full sun as well as in partial shade or even shade. The plant is undemanding to the soil, is fairly hardy (better than Hedera helix), and is often used for undergrowth, box planting, but can also be used as a solitary.
