Rhododendron 'Lord Roberts'

Rhododendron 'lord roberts' is a medium-sized, evergreen, rhodo with a broad upright shape. The leaves are rather heavy in texture, wrinkled, elliptical and dark green. This catawbiense hybrid blooms mainly from May to June, with funnel-shaped, crimson-red flowers with a black mark in the throat, the round flower clusters are composed of 12 to 22 flowers. Rhododendron 'lord roberts' likes a location in filtered sunlight or partial shade, sheltered from chilly winds and with a shaded root zone, but it can also handle some full sun. It requires an acidic, moist, well-drained soil that should never be allowed to dry out completely, requires little pruning and is very hardy.
