Persicaria amphibia
Persicaria amphibia, also called peat root, is a plant that occurs both in water and on land. The leaves are elliptical to lanceolate, usually floating and colored dark green. Persicaria amphibia blooms from late June to October, with pink to rose-red terminal flower spikes. This persicaria likes a position in full sun or partial shade, is ph flexible, reasonably drought tolerant, but grows fastest in well-drained, moist soil. Peat root thrives in the swamp zone, wet grasslands, the pond edge and in the coastal region. The plant is very hardy, tolerates sea wind and air pollution, attracts many butterflies, bees and other insects and has little or no problems with diseases and pests.

Phalaris arund. 'Picta'
Phalaris arundinacea "Picta" is called variegated reed grass or canary grass in Dutch. It is a variegated, medium-sized, evergreen ornamental grass. The leaves are medium green to dark green with broad creamy white vertical stripes. Canary grass flowers from June to July with airy, narrow, light green flower panicles. This grass likes a sunny position and well-drained, moderately fertile soil. The plant is very hardy, reasonably drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution well, has few problems with diseases and is rarely plagued by pests. However, it is a usurer, through its underground rhizomes it can spread quickly, so limiting is the message.

The Helictotrichon sempervirens 'Saphirsprudel', called Sierhaver or Veldhaver in the Netherlands, is a very beautiful perennial with gray leaves. A gray spike appears in June and blooms until July. The plant grows to a maximum height of about 70 cm. The plant stays green all winter and the plant is hardy! Place the plant in the sun or partial shade for a beautiful and full result. In the spring you can prune away the dead leaves.

Pontederia cordata
Pontederia cordata, in Dutch called pike herb or swamp hyacinth, is a particularly rewarding aquatic plant for the small to large pond. With its special appearance, sloping habit and pointed heart-shaped, dark green leaves combined with the beautiful blue elongated flower spikes, it offers the pond an exotic look. Pontederia cordata prefers a position in full sun or partial shade, a somewhat loamy soil and a water depth of between 20 and 60 cm. If you plant the plant at a minimum height of 30 cm, you do not need to take additional protective measures during the winter. If you want to keep the plant in the shallow swamp zone of the pond, you will have to put an extra leaf cover on top of the plant during the winter as protection against frost.

Imperata cylindrica "Red Baron", syn. "Rubra", called Japanese blood grass in Dutch, is a decorative deciduous grass with a stiff, upright growth and a loose, clump-forming habit. The narrow linear leaves are fresh green and then turn a fiery red in summer, flowering is rare in Europe. In other regions Japanese blood grass blooms from July to August with silver-gray flower spikes. Imperata cylindrica "Red Baron" likes a sunny and sheltered position in a well-drained soil.
