Helictotrichon sempervirens

Helictotrichon sempervirens, syn. Avena sempervirens, called blue ray oats or soft oats in Dutch, is a graceful evergreen grass with ray-shaped pollen and attractive blue-gray narrow linear leaves. This ornamental oat flowers in July and August with loose yellow-brown plumes on high culms and likes a sunny position in a soil that is not too fertile, well-drained. It is a good accent plant for the border, cottage garden or city garden. The plant is hardy, fairly drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution.
