Persicaria amphibia

Persicaria amphibia, also called peat root, is a plant that occurs both in water and on land. The leaves are elliptical to lanceolate, usually floating and colored dark green. Persicaria amphibia blooms from late June to October, with pink to rose-red terminal flower spikes. This persicaria likes a position in full sun or partial shade, is ph flexible, reasonably drought tolerant, but grows fastest in well-drained, moist soil. Peat root thrives in the swamp zone, wet grasslands, the pond edge and in the coastal region. The plant is very hardy, tolerates sea wind and air pollution, attracts many butterflies, bees and other insects and has little or no problems with diseases and pests.
