An ornamental grass is a grass-like plant that is used for its special decorative value. Examples of ornamental grass are various types of Miscanthus (beautiful reed), Cortaderia (pampas grass), Carex (sedge), Molinia (pipe straw), Festuca (fescue grass), Panicum (finger grass), Pennisetum (lamp cleaner grass) and Stipa (feather grass). Schizachyrium scoparium (syn. Andropogon scoparius), also called small prairie grass, is a small to medium-sized deciduous grass with a very upright habit. The leaves are narrow, linear, blue-green colored and slowly spread. In the fall they get a beautiful reddish brown to orange-red autumn colour. Small prairie grass flowers from late July to October with narrow brownish-red flower panicles.
