Syringa vulg. 'Charles Joly'

Syringa vulgaris "Charles Joly" is a medium to large, deciduous lilac with a bushy, wide upright habit. This 19th century cultivar is 3 m high and wide after 10 years. The leaves are deeply heart-shaped, smooth-edged and bright green in color. The small, double flowers are purple-red, strongly scented and are grouped in upright panicles. This lilac likes a position in full sun and needs a minimum of 5 to 6 hours of sun to bloom profusely. As a soil type, it prefers neutral or calcareous soil. Syringa vulgaris "Charles Joly" is hardy, tolerates sea wind and air pollution.
