Iris ensata
Iris ensata, called Japanese Iris or Japanese Iris in Dutch, is a deciduous perennial with a pol-forming habit. Characteristic of this iris is the large, as it were, flat flower, because the upright petals are narrow and short and the protruding lip large and wide. The Japanese iris has grass-green to gray-green, sword-shaped leaves with a striking midrib, the main bloom takes place in July, the flowers are violet-purple, flat, beardless and have a beautiful powder effect. Japanese iris grows well in nutrient-rich, lime-poor, humus-rich sandy soil near the waterfront, in the period from May to August they like an almost permanently moist soil.
