Spartium junceum

Spartium junceum is also known as Spanish or Portuguese broom in Dutch. It is a deciduous, medium-sized shrub with a wide upright habit. This plant is usually multi-stemmed and has only a small number of inconspicuous, elongated green leaves. Spartium junceum blooms in May with bright yellow, pea-like flowers. These are in long racemes of up to 45 cm long on new stems. This plant likes a position in full sun, sheltered from harsh winter winds and could use some extra winter protection. Spartium is drought tolerant and attracts butterflies, bees and insects.
