Hippocrepis emerus
Hippocrepis emerus, syn. Coronilla emerus is a small to medium-sized upright broom-like shrub belonging to the legume family (Fabaceae). It blooms long and profusely with small yellow broom-like flowers with a red flag in the middle. The flowering period extends from late April to July. The leaves are green, odd-pinnate with 5 to 9 obovate leaf segments. The Hippocrepis emerus likes a position in the sun or partial shade and requires calcareous to neutral soil that is not too nutrient-rich. This shrub horseshoe clover is very hardy, tolerates winter pruning well and is also a good bee plant.
