Pennisetum alopecuroides "Hameln", in Dutch called lampshiner grass, is a very popular deciduous grass species with a round, compact, clump-forming habit. The leaves are narrow linear, medium green to dark green, arcuate and overhanging, in autumn they turn a golden yellow color. Pennisetum alopecuroides "Hameln" flowers from July to September with greenish, creamy-white flower spikes that turn gray-brown later in autumn. This lamp cleaner grass likes a position in full sun or partial shade and a well-permeable, moderately fertile, not too heavy soil. This pennisetum is reasonably to hardy and drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution.
