Miscanthus giganteus

Miscanthus "giganteus", also called Japanese giant reed, is a sterile hybrid, created by crossing m. Sacchariflorus and m. Sinensis. This giant reed has a powerful upright shape, with blue-green leaves on tall upright stems. In our climate, miscanthus "giganteus" rarely flowers with silver-gray plumes, the plant does not produce seed, it is sterile. Japanese giant reed likes a sunny location, preferably somewhat sheltered from strong (storm) winds and a well-drained, moist, nutrient-rich soil. Miscanthus "giganteus" is hardy and once established, also drought tolerant. It tolerates air pollution, is disease and vermin free.
