Ligularia dentata

Ligularia dendata, in Dutch called ragwort or greybeard, is a deciduous perennial with a clump-forming, upright habit. The large decorative leaves are heart-shaped to kidney-shaped and bronze-green or maroon-red colored in too dry conditions they quickly leave their leaves hanging. Ligularia dentata blooms with large golden yellow daisy-like flowers in flat umbels. The plant prefers a position in partial shade and a humus-rich, cool, permanently moist soil and is perfectly suited for the pond edge or swamp zone. Ragwort is very hardy, reasonably sea wind tolerant, disease-free, but often suffers from eating by snails.
