This plant has small elongated compound leaves, reddish brown in color and with a serrated leaf margin. The white inflorescence is inconspicuous, but the red-brown fruits that follow it are particularly decorative. Acaena prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and prefers a calcareous to neutral, well-drained soil type. This plant is hardy, requires little maintenance, is sea wind tolerant and is usually used as a ground cover or as a plant for the rock garden.
