Cyrtomium falcatum
Cyrtomium falcatum, called iron fern in Dutch, is a beautiful medium-sized fern from East Asia that has recently also spread in nature in the Netherlands and Belgium. This herbaceous fern has long-stemmed, single-pinnate, glossy, light green leaves. iron fern likes a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and a well-drained, humus-rich, moist soil. Cyrtomium falcatum is reasonably hardy, tolerant of sea wind and air pollution and once well established it can handle drier periods. Iron fern does not suffer from pests and is also good disease resistant. This fern is suitable for the woodland garden, informal garden, cottage garden and can be used as underplanting or ground cover.

Abelia grandiflora 'Edward Goucher', medium-sized, semi-evergreen, compact growing shrub with pink to violet-pink flowers, dark green, pointed, slightly hairy leaves and beautiful leaf discoloration in autumn. Chamaemelum nobile 'Treneague' has the Dutch name Loopkamille. Camomile is a low-growing and evergreen perennial. The final height is 5 cm. Cynara scolymus
Cynara scolymus, syn. Cynara cardunculus subsp.flavescens wiklund or in Dutch: artichoke is a deciduous perennial with a sturdy upright shape and thick, gray-green, thistle-like leaves. The plant blooms from July to September with compact, bulbous, thistle-like purple flowers that contain a lot of nectar and attract bees, bumblebees and butterflies. Cynara scolymus likes an open spot in full sun and requires well-drained, fertile soil that is not too wet during the winter months. The plant is fairly hardy, but can always use good winter protection. Once established, artichoke is also fairly drought tolerant. Although the artichoke can tolerate a lot of wind and also salty soil, it does not like direct sea wind.

Acca sellowiana
Acca Sellowiana, syn. Feijoa sellowiana, called pineapple guava in Dutch, is a medium-sized evergreen shrub from South America, with a bushy habit and decorative, green elliptical leaves with a silver-grey underside. This Brazilian guava flowers from June to October with fragrant, pink-white flowers with bright red stamens, followed after fertilization by edible green-red fruits with a sweet and sour pineapple flavour. Acca sellowiana likes a sheltered position in full sun and a neutral to calcareous well-drained soil that is not too dry, especially during the fruit season. In our climate, this plant is only moderately hardy, when the mercury dips below 10°c, some winter protection is still recommended.

Acanthus mollis is often called soft acanthus or spiny hogweed in Dutch. It is a semi-evergreen perennial with an upright shape and a clump-forming habit. Spiny Bear Claw has glossy deeply lobed, dark green feathery leaves with soft spines. From June to the end of August it blooms with upright clusters of white flowers with purple bracts.
