Sasa veitchii
Sasa veitchii is a small evergreen bamboo with a dense, compact habit. The large and broad leaves are first glossy dark green, but in the autumn they develop wide creamy-white leaf margins. The culms are thin, elastic, densely branched and frosted green at first. Later they take on a purple-green hue. Sasa veitchii likes a sheltered position in the sun or partial shade and requires moist, but well-drained fertile soil. This bamboo is reasonably to hardy in a southern or western orientation. In contrast to many other species, it can also tolerate a fair amount of drought and is also tolerant to sea wind, which makes it suitable for the coastal region. Can be used as a solitary, low windbreak, planting or ground cover.
