Pieris jap. 'Katsura'
Pieris japonica 'Katsura' is called rock heath in Dutch. It is an evergreen, small dwarf shrub with a bushy, compact shape. Not only the shiny, elongated leaves that first open wine-red in spring and turn green afterwards are decorative, but also the small, pink, fragrant, bell-like flowers that appear in March and April. This Pieris jap. 'Katsura' is hardy, likes a position in full sun or partial shade and prefers a well-drained, moist, acidic soil. It requires little pruning, is low maintenance, attracts butterflies and bees and is also fairly tolerant of sea wind and air pollution.
