Pittosporum tobira
Pittosporum tobira is called Australian laurel in Dutch. It is a medium-sized, slow-growing, evergreen shrub with a compact, bushy, round, upright shape and glossy, leathery, oval, dark green leaves with rolled edges. Pittosporum tobira flowers in April and May with creamy white, star-shaped flowers with flaming petals. The flowers also spread a delicious, sweet orange scent. Pittosporum is only moderately hardy and should always be protected in winter or moved to the orangery or conservatory as a container plant. The plant is particularly tolerant of sea wind and salt, attracts butterflies and bees and has few pest problems.
