Physocarpus opulifolius "Red Baron" is a medium-sized, deciduous bladderwort. It is a multi-stemmed shrub with an upright and vase-shaped habit, compact and refined. The leaves are three-lobed, toothed, deep wine-red to almost black-red, strongly veined. This spirea blooms from late May to early July with white to pink-white, fragrant flowers in umbels that attract bees and butterflies. Physocarpus opulif. "red baron" likes a position in full sun or partial shade, well-drained, humus-rich soil with a preference for slightly acidic soil. The plant is hardy, sea wind tolerant, air pollution resistant and has few problems with diseases or pests.
