Indigofera heterantha 'Gerardiana'
Indigofera heterantha'gerardiana', also called indigo shrub, is a medium-sized deciduous shrub with an upright and wide-growing shape. This indigofera has graceful pinnate, short-stalked leaves with 13 to 21 fresh green oval leaflets. From June to the end of August it blooms with dense racemes of violet-pink flowers that smell of vanilla, followed later in autumn by long brown-red seed pods. This indigo shrub likes a position in full sun or partial shade in a well-drained soil, it is very flexible in terms of soil type, reasonably hardy and can be pruned back almost completely every year. Once well established, it is also fairly drought tolerant.
