Arenaria montana or sandwort is an evergreen perennial with a clump-forming habit and narrow lance-shaped, gray-green leaves. This plant blooms profusely from April to June with small, white, cup-shaped flowers with a light green throat. Arenaria montana likes a position in full sun or partial shade and is very flexible in terms of soil type, provided it is sufficiently permeable. Sandwort is often used as a ground cover or rock plant. The plant is hardy, fairly drought tolerant, can withstand sea wind and tolerates air pollution fairly well.
