Crocosmia crocosmiifolia
The leaves of Crocosmia crocosmiiflora change color nicely in autumn, especially when frost sets in early. These leaves are narrow and up to 80 centimeters long. The small-flowered Crocosmia was introduced to Europe from South Africa around 1900, and the first large-flowered variety came on the market in the 1950s. The name Crocosmia is derived from the Greek words 'krokos' meaning saffron and 'osme' fragrance; a plant with a saffron scent. Crocosmias produce several flowers per stem and have sword-shaped leaves.
