Symphytum grandifl. 'Wisley Blue'
Symphytum grandiflorum "wisley blue" is called comfrey in Dutch. It is a deciduous perennial with a carpet-forming habit. The leaves are large, gray-green to medium green, smooth-edged and heart-shaped. This comfrey root blooms from June to August with white-blue, bell-shaped flowers that emerge from red flower buds. This symphytum likes a sunny position and neutral, well-drained soil that is not too dry. The plant has medicinal power and the leaf litter is a good compost activator. Blue comfrey is hardy and, once established, also fairly drought tolerant. It is a good pregnancy plant for bees and can tolerate some air pollution as well.
