Miscanthus sinensis "Red Chief" blooms from August to October with reddish-brown flower panicles that turn creamy white to silvery white later in the fall when the seed matures. This beautiful reed likes a sunny position and a well-drained, slightly moist, moderately fertile soil. Miscanthus sinensis "Red Chief" is hardy and once established drought tolerant, tolerating air pollution and sea wind.
