Salvia officinalis
Salvia officinalis, also known as true sage, is a semi-evergreen perennial with a compact upright shape and gray-green, oval to elongated, aromatic leaves. This decorative, but also culinary sage, blooms from June to August with violet-blue to lilac-pink flower spikes. The plant likes a position in full sun and does well in almost any well-drained soil type. Salvia officinalis is very hardy, reasonably drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and some air pollution and has few problems with diseases. Sage is digestive and antiseptic. It can be used in sauces, herbal vinegar or herbal oil, it is also made into tea and applications in toothpaste and mouthwash are still topical.
