Chelone obliqua 'Alba' or tortoise flower in English is a deciduous perennial with a bushy upright shape. The leaves are light green, broadly lanceolate, markedly veined and serrated at the edges. Chelone obliqua 'Alba' blooms from July to September with pure white flowers. The plant prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and a moist to soggy soil. The turtle flower is hardy and disease resistant, tolerates sea wind, is reasonably tolerant to air pollution but can sometimes be plagued by snails.
