Bergenia cordifolia

Bergenia cordifolia, called cobbler plant in Dutch, is an attractive evergreen perennial with a pol-forming habit and large ruffled, decorative leaves on fleshy stems, the leaf color is medium green in spring, summer, autumn and green-purple in winter. This bergenia blooms in April and May with dark pink bell-shaped flowers on upright stems. The cobbler plant is very hardy, does well in partial shade, shade and sun and is not very demanding as far as soil is concerned, although it prefers a fresh, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Bergenia cordifolia is sea wind tolerant and is very resistant to air pollution.
