Salix purp. 'Nana'

Salix purpurea "Nana", also called bitter willow or dwarf willow, is a small deciduous shrub or tree with a compact, bushy, rounded shape. The small, elongated leaves are blue-green on top and lighter on the underside. From March to April, this dwarf willow flowers with female and male catkins on the bare wood. It likes a position in full sun or partial shade and prefers a soil with a neutral acidity. The Salix purpurea "Nana" is extremely hardy and requires little maintenance, although annual pruning is recommended. This salix is also tolerant of sea wind and air pollution, attracts bees and butterflies and can also be used as a container plant or for an informal hedge.
