Magnolia hybr. 'George Henry Kern'

Magnolia "George Henry Kern" is a medium-sized, deciduous tree with an upright, pyramidal shape. This hybrid is a cross between magnolia stellata & magnolia liliiflora "nigra" and has narrow, pointed, oval, dark green leaves. It flowers from April to June with fragrant, pink-red, upright flowers with 8 sepals, later followed by knobby, red-green fruits. It likes a position in full sun or light shade and prefers a not too heavy, acidic to neutral, moist soil. This magnolia is low maintenance, needs little pruning and is reasonably hardy.
