This iris blooms in June and July with large, velvety purple-black iris-like flowers with a golden signal. Iris louisiana 'black gamecock' likes a position in full sun or light shade and a neutral to acidic, humus-rich, moist soil, it can also be planted with its feet in water. This iris is hardy, pest free and disease resistant, it also tolerates sea breeze and air pollution quite well.
