Miscanthus sinensis "Ferner Osten", usually called beautiful cane in Dutch, is a very popular deciduous grass species. This beautiful reed has a bushy, upright shape with narrow and linear mid-green leaves that turn a beautiful orange-red in autumn. Miscanthus sinensis "Ferner Osten" flowers from August to November with first red flower panicles with white tips that turn pinkish white later in the season when the seed matures and later turn silvery white. This beautiful reed likes a sunny position and a well-drained, slightly moist, moderately fertile soil. Miscanthus sinensis "Ferner Osten" is hardy and once established also drought tolerant, tolerating air pollution and sea wind.
