Deschampsia cesp. 'Goldschleier'

Deschampsia cespitosa 'Goldschleier', commonly called smele in Dutch, is a medium-sized evergreen grass species with a compact, clump-forming habit. The dark green leaves are stiff, elongated, leathery and shiny. This smele blooms from June to August with airy, first green-yellow flower panicles, which turn a beautiful golden color as soon as the seed ripens. Deschampsia cespitosa 'Goldschleier' prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and an acidic to neutral, well-permeable, humus-rich soil. This smele is hardy, tolerates drought, sea breeze and air pollution and is virtually free from diseases or pests.
