Pleioblastus variegatus

Pleioblastus variegatus is a small, evergreen dwarf bamboo. It has a low-growing, compact, bushy, ground-covering habit. The leaves are pointed upwards, variegated, medium green with creamy white vertical stripes, lanceolate and stand on light green culms. This bamboo likes a sheltered position in full sun and a moist, but well-permeable, nutrient-rich soil. Pleioblastus variegatus is reasonably to hardy, but prefers a sheltered place. It is only moderately drought tolerant, dislikes direct sea breezes, tolerates air pollution and is virtually unaffected by diseases or pests.
