Phlox 'The King'

Phlox paniculata 'The King' flowers with large, dark lilac plumes.

Flame flowers require well-drained soil, moist and fertile, so give them fertilizer annually, so you also get thicker flowers.

Larger flowers can also be expected if you pinch off the weaker stems in spring.

They do not do as well on calcareous clay soil, which is why it is better to mix garden peat, compost or sand through the soil.

Cut the stems down to the ground in autumn or spring.
