Leontopodium alpinum

Leontopodium alpinum, called edelweiss in Dutch, is an evergreen perennial with spatulate gray-green leaves and attractive yellow-white flower heads surrounded by star-shaped and slightly hairy, silver-gray bracts. The flowering period is in the months of June and July, followed later by dark brown, hairy fruit pods. Leontopodium alpinum likes a position in full sun and a neutral or alkaline soil that must above all be well-drained. edelweiss is very hardy and once established also fairly drought tolerant.
