Leycesteria form. 'Purple Rain'

Leycesteria formosa 'Purple Rain', called pheasant berry or caramel berry in Dutch, is a medium-sized deciduous shrub with a bushy, upright growth and remarkably profuse flowering. It blooms late in the summer from August to October with white flowers and purple-red bracts on hanging panicles, followed in autumn by fragrant ruby-red and later purple-red berries. Leycesteria likes a position in partial shade or sun, can be used in all soil types and is also reasonably drought tolerant. This plant is reasonably hardy, sea wind resistant, air pollution tolerant, attracts bees and butterflies and has few problems with pests or diseases.
