Verbena bonariensis

Verbena bonariensis, in Dutch called vervain, is a deciduous perennial with a strongly upright habit and lanceolate, rough-hairy, serrated, dark green leaves. Vervain blooms from July to the end of September with small tubular violet-purple flowers grouped in flattened terminal flower clusters on tall upright square flower stems. Verbena bonariensis prefers a position in full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil. The plant is fairly hardy and drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution well, attracts a lot of butterflies, bees and insects.
